A Spanish rapier, c. 1680, of 111cm in total length, sold by Czerny's auction house for €1,900.

 




Straight, double-edged blade, of hexagonal section, with groove in the first part outlined at the borders. Iron hilt with two convex and oval valves, the front one engraved with a dragon between floral motifs, the back one with curls forming a flower. Areas with rust damage. Straight quillons of round section with sprouts at each end. Loop-guard decorated with knots. Oval pommel carved with floral motifs and small dragons in bas-relief. Wooden grip with coils, with wire binding and wire moor's heads.
